What is the maximum print area on the DUT-21 DIGITAL? |
The maximum print area on the DUT-21 DIGITAL is 8" x 5" However, the print bed (Platen) can
hold products larger than 8" x 5" |
Can I use the DUT-21 DIGITAL for printing onto small products as well as large? |
Yes, you can. |
Does the DUT-21 DIGITAL have a product counter? |
Yes, it does. Our modern machines incorporate a magnetic counter for accurately counting the number of impressions/prints. |
Does the DUT-21 DIGITAL require any servicing? |
No. Our machines are virtually maintenance-free. Apart from adding a drop of machine oil to one or two moving parts occasionally, there is no other servicing required. |
What materials will I be able to print onto? |
With hot foil stamping in general, you can print onto Paper, Card, Plastic, Leather, Vinyl, PVC, Soft Wood, Ribbon etc. |
What materials will
I not be able to print onto? |
You will not be able to print onto Ceramics, Metal, Glass etc.
To print onto these types of surface see our pad printing machines. |
Can I print onto round surfaces with hot foil stamping? |
Hot foil stamping is generally suited to flat products only. Concave dies can be obtained for printing minimal details on products with slight curvature. However, these dies tend to be fairly costly and are generally avoided by the beginner. For printing onto round surfaces, you will find our Pad Printing Machines to be more appropriate. |
Can I use the DUT-21 DIGITAL to die cut shapes? |
Yes, you can. The amount of pressure created by the DUT-21 DIGITAL will enable you to die cut small shapes out of material such as Magnet (ie. to create "Fridge Magnets") etc. To die cut larger areas, you would need larger industrial machines. |
What is required to die cut shapes? |
A simple outline of the shape is all that is required from which a shaped Blade can be made. The Blade is attached to the DUT-21 DIGITAL and the pressure applied by pulling the handle will cut out the required shape. |
As the DUT-21 DIGITAL is of manual operation, is there a faster way of printing
Business and Plastic Cards? |
Yes, there is. Our innovative optional AF-2 Auto Card Feeder attachment will help to increase your printing speed several fold when compared to feeding individual cards by hand. |
Can I print Ribbons using the DUT-21 DIGITAL? |
Yes, you can print Ribbons of various sizes on the DUT-21 DIGITAL. To make things easier, we have also developed our optional LP-1 Ribbon/Label Feeder. This will enable
you to feed Ribbon or Label stock from reel to reel with remarkable ease. |
Can I print sequential numbering onto Plastic Cards, Party Tickets etc? |
Yes you can. We sell a special numbering box which will fit onto our machine and will thus enable you to print sequential numbering in foil. |
How much do foils cost? |
Standard colours of Metallic & Matt Foils cost as little as US$ 8.66 (£5.25) for a 3.5" wide x 400 feet length of a roll of foil. With one roll of foil, you should be able to print around 3000 Business Cards or almost 15,000 Pens! Therefore, the cost of printing is almost negligible. Foils are also widely available from around the world. |
Does Foil easily scratch off once a product has been printed? |
No. Foil is bonded permanently onto a product. However, using a wrong grade of foil on a particular surface or inadequate heat may lead to the foil not adhering properly onto the product. On products such as Leather Key Fobs, foils will wear out
eventually over a period of time due to regular handling. |
Can I print without using any Plates? |
Yes you can by using "Type". Type is made out of Lead or Alloy Material. A set of Type will normally consist of Capital, Lowercase, Numbers and Punctuations. You will normally get several of the same letters (with more of the Vowels eg. a,e,i,o,u). Letters are locked into a special unit known as a "Slip Case" (One Slip
Case is used for each line of Type). Slip Cases are then locked into a "Chase Typeholder" (supplied with each
machine) which is then placed in the heated section of the DUT-21 DIGITAL (or "Baby DUT") and the machine is then ready for printing. |
What else do I need to purchase with Type? |
You will need
"Quads & Spacers" which cost US$ 16.50 (£10.00), and "Slip Cases" which cost US$ 9.90 each (£6.00). Quads & Spacers are used to leave gaps between words, whereas Slip Cases are used to securely hold Type in straight lines. A Slip Case is required for each line of print. Correct size Quads & Spacers as well as Slip Cases must be used for the appropriate point sized Type. |
How much does a set of Type cost? |
Type made out of Lead can cost as little as US$ 58.00 (£35) per set, and harder Alloy Type can cost between US$ 99.00 - US$ 165.00 (£60-£100). Type can be used over and over again for different jobs. |
Do
I need to cut Business Cards & Foils to size? |
No, Cards are supplied in a box and precut to popular sizes. Foils can be cut to any size width by the supplier, and there is no extra charge for this service. |
Do
I need a different "Plate/Block" for every job? |
Yes a different Plate/Block is needed for every job. However, simple jobs (in Standard text and in straight horizontal lines) do not require Plates/Blocks as they can be printed using Type.
A Plate is usually a one-off cost which is added onto the customer's first order. Once made, Plates can be used over and over again for the same job, on repeat orders. |
How much do Plates cost? |
The cost of Plates is usually worked out by calculating the number of "Square Inches" taken up by the artwork. For example, a standard business card size Plate can costs around $25.00 (£15.00). However, with our Plate Making Systems, you can make your own for as little as US$ 3.30 (£2.00). |
